Brake Reconditioning Machinist

Power Brakes is a well-established specialist in brake component reconditioning and repair, and we’re looking for a reliable Machinist/Centre Turning Lathe Operator to join our team full-time.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, has an interest in cars or mechanics, and wants to build skills in a busy workshop environment. No trade qualification is required, previous experience on a Centre Turning Lathe and the use of Boring Bars is a must along with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
The Role
Working alongside experienced team members, you’ll assist with a range of workshop tasks, including:
- Assisting with the reconditioning of brake components
- Operating basic workshop machinery and hand tools (training provided)
- Cleaning, prepping and painting components
- Checking parts for quality and accuracy
- Maintaining a clean and safe workshop environment
- Supporting the team to keep jobs moving efficiently
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an interest in the automotive industry or mechanical work
- Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work
- Can follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Is comfortable using hand tools and willing to learn machinery
- Understands the importance of workplace safety
- Brings a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Previous workshop or labouring experience is an advantage, but not essential.

This role includes a 3-month probation period, with the expectation that you’ll build confidence in the core tasks and become a reliable part of the team.
Pay starts from $35 per hour depending on previous experience, with an early review at 3 months. We recognise and reward performance, and offer opportunities for pay progression based on skills, experience, and contribution.
